Math is hard!  Successful math students demonstrate these healthy math habits.
SUCCESSFUL MATH HABITS
1. Persevere:  Work hard to overcome challenges and finish the task.
2. Reason:  Ask themselves questions about numbers and symbols and how they can be changed following math rules. Ask themselves "does this make sense?"
3. Talk about Math:  Use math vocabulary to explain their answers. Talk about why they think their answer is right or wrong.
4. Use a Model:  Apply their math to a real world situation.  Use a tool such as a graph, chart, formula, or manipulative.
5. Choose a tool:  Decide when it is appropriate to use a calculator, ruler, protractor, pencil/paper, website or other math tool.
6. Work and Communicate Accurately: Work carefully to use correct symbols and vocabulary. Present their work neatly and clearly.
7. Use Patterns and Structure: See and apply math patterns.  Use simple problems to solve complex problems.
8. Check for Reasonableness: Does the answer make sense?  Use their understanding of other concepts to check current answer. Check at the beginning, middle, and end of problem solving process.
